Rudi Zygadlo - Caramel Cosmia (Joanna Newsom / Milanese amalgamation)

I love hearing something that I have truly never heard of before. This track takes from a lot of different sounds and is a beautiful work of art. Rudi Zygadlo expertly creates a musical work that comes together like a puzzle and forms what is almost beyond words. I can't help but nod my head throughout...

Subterra - Loro Piceno

Jungle? Hip hop? From the future? This tune is like staring at a photograph that you cannot remember, yet brings back memories so touching you want to look away form it; the beauty radiating from it is too potent to resist and only good things lay ahead of you.

ASC - The Touch featuring Riya | Vaccine Remix

Futuristic flavours to dream of and die for are out now, from three artists spanning the UK and US that combine the best of both worlds. Homegrown, cutting edge producer ASC, a favourite of mine from over the years (and one whose dusty vinyls sit in my bedroom), has partnered with his wife Vaccine (a more recent favourite of mine, renowned for her exquisite productions that take dubstep and drum & bass in unforeseen directions) and the sensational vocalist Riya; who has bought something totally unique and inspiring to drum and bass music with her string of collaborations (most notably with Lenzman).

The Touch is the first single release on ASC's own Auxilliary imprint, out now on 12". The track flows with the Autonomic sound - which ASC has helped to pioneer over the years - and the amalgamation of his signature basslines, skipping beats and otherworldly soundscapes. The bassline rings with the nostalgic tones that are the underbelly of jungle and the light drums are fully rinsing with an awesome halfstep vibe; entwined with tender melodic chimes and astral vocals that offer something very different and very forward thinking.

The Vaccine Remix holds the tempo and whilst maintaining an equally mellow vibe as the original, the track takes a completely different route that hits the aural senses with a startling punch. The tune pumps behind an ethereal veil that echoes with such kinetic intensity that it opens up another superior dimension to Vaccine's sublime material. Stripped down and rebuilt - this is an exemplary remix.

Lung - Afterlife [Kryptic Minds Remix]

One of the finest tracks of this year and soon to be released. Overwhelming. Standard.

H.E.N.C.H. Recordings - Eddie K

Fresh on the H.E.N.C.H label and to be released on Tuesday 28th September, comes a strong set from Eddie K, including collaborations with Minus.

Eddie K & Minus - Serial Killa (ft. Beezy)
Vibrant, glowing soundwaves drift in and out of the air and twist unexpectedly into the violent and cyclonic mix of aggression that is expected from the vast genre of dubstep; with a voice sample to match. Not always my favoured style of music, but nonetheless guaranteed to murder you on the dancefloor:

Eddie K - Starlight
Starlight, on the other hand, makes my hands shake as the vibe builds with its riding hats and wonders into a heavy drop laced with sky high percussion and rolling bass.  Light-headedness is caused by the melodic pulses and the syncopated rhythms, which ignite the stars:

Eddie K & Minus - Disfigured Love (ft. Beezy & Shadz)
Give a song a passionate name, with heartfelt notes and topline vocal to match and I am won over. I am always particular about tracks with raps in the mix, and in the case of Disfigured Love I am only touched by the instrumental, yet this tune is bound to capture the hearts of many:

Diversity truly stands out from the sound of this producer and marks him as a key player. Grab a studio mix from Eddie K here.

Duffstep

To see a man that I went to college with progress so well, has put a smile on my face. Especially when they have made it on their own. Duffstep is playing live among the likes of Kode 9 and Flying Lotus; as well as pushing his productions out under three aliases spanning breaks, dub, dubstep and house. I really began to take notice when I stumbled across a 12" of his in Blackmarket Records / BM Soho and then clicked on his Souncloud links on my Facebook wall. As these things occur nowdays.

This tune, "Together", is one of those peaceful, yet equally powerful pieces of ethereal and jumping beats that echos in your mind for hours. Like Pariah mixed with Burial and taken one step further. Emotive and beautiful, it carries you through its minutes and delivers you to the other side as if only a second had passed.

This teasing video of a Duffstep Live Audio-Visual show gives a pretty good indication of the direction things are going. The man also got himself on Big Up Podacast 33, which can be heard / downloaded below:

Dark Sky Don't Waste Time - Frames EP

Time, it seems, is a difficult concept. Time - if there really is such a thing - is always my enemy. I take too much time doing everything. There's been far, far too much time since I last posted anything on my blog here. There's not enough time to do the things that I want to do this evening. There won't be enough time tomorrow. The notion of time helps us create. It also helps us to waste. This very conception could help me, or anyone, in making the most of time, so I'll start with that which I hold dearest - music.

A group of artists that I discovered earlier this year have come to my attention once more and it is my intention to bring them to the attention of anyone who reads this post. These artists are Dark Sky. Based on the Pictures label (an excellent record label and photo blog that should be added to everyones bookmarks), this trio of "dubstep" producers have truly given me something to take time out for.

Their new Frames EP, consists of four pieces that are as diverse and imaginative as I could hope for in a fresh release:

1. Reflex

Reflex is lazy, dreamy and ghostly as it rises with nostalgic pulses of stabbing keys of synth; ridden by percussive highs and flowing shakers that move the heart. My mind casts back to earlier sounds of house music and speed garage that are the signature of my love for music. The sounds intensify and fire down like beams of sharp light; twisting and churning round as if you couldn't dance to it fast enough.

2. Night Light

Night Light is equally as memorable in its attraction as it is in its power to drag you back to places you have seen maybe once and never thought you would ever see again. Beautiful chimes rotate around the jagged bass line of the track that will charm you to pieces. I find myself clapping my hands when I should be tapping keys and the fizzy melody doesn't so much resolve the tune as it leaves you itching for the replay.

3. Drowned City

Drowned City does not ask you to remember, it asks you to never forget. Beautiful notes glide through the top line and you are whisked away by angelic whispers and glistening winds that arouse and electrify. Head nodding garage beats break under snug, soothing bass that won't escape you.

4. Fly

Fly has a definitively grime-flavoured, bouncing, tech-noir vibe that shoots shocks of bass through you at every angle. The sly whistles and ruffling percussion disintegrate into an old-skool breakdown and relapse over the overwhelmingly engaging second drop that is the purest and finest of filth from phenomenal music makers.

Love it? See more at Pictures.

The Creators Project - Peaches & James Laville

Following on from a recent post about The Creators Project, new videos for Peaches and James Lavelle have been unleashed via The Creators Project website:

Peaches

The electro-punk queen and boundary pushing digital pioneer discusses how she's managed to be a trendsetter for the past 20 years, how reinventing is key to her success and development as an artist, and how the digital revolution has helped her express her rabble-rousing ideas. Although unafraid to shock her live show is more than just mere provocation, as she uses new technologies to create something unique, visually arresting and above all, entertaining.

James Lavelle

The self-proclaimed music geek who helped put the UK hip-hop scene on the map talks about what inspired him, how he's always had a passion for dance music, his musical collaboration UNKLE, his music label Mo Wax and why it's important to showcase new artists. Released DJ Shadow's seminal 1996 record Entroducing; brought attention to the graffiti artist Futura 2000 by using his artwork on many Mo Wax releases in the early to mid 1990s; founder of trip-hop outfit, UNKLE.

The Red Book, produced by Seventh Stitch, is an unbelievably exquisite track. This tune is deeply comparable to both Burial and Metamatics -- whose album, Neo Ouija, is one of my own strongest personal influences; even in the 1990's forms of music that are now labled 'dubstep' were running strong.

The Creators Project

Vice has launched a major partnership with Intel Computers known as The Creators Project. The venture has established a network that shall celebrate and showcase international and multimedia creativity and culture; The Creators Project is a self-proclaimed innovative channel for artists of the digital world; both of the present and of the future.

"The Creators Project has two mandates: on one hand it’s a modern day media channel that we will continually identify and celebrate the work of visionary artists wherever they are. On the other hand it is also a content creation studio, an arts foundation of sorts that will facilitate the production and dissemination of new work with these artists and their collaborators."

A number of exhibitions and events will tie into both traditional and digital media efforts to distribute the creative works the project seeks to expose. The website is where it is happening now and soon print, TV and mobile will be added to the mix. The Creators Project has begun in New York and is set to roll out globally.

I love The Creators Project's social ethos, not only as a massive global collaboration with no boundaries, but how it embraces the audience and their interactivity; which is what it is all about:

"The spirit that cuts across the entirety of this project is one of conversation and collaboration, which fundamentally includes you, the audience. Watch, read, comment, share, and let us know what you think of our new arts channel and content studio every step of the way."

Vice and Intel have combined their might to create several documentaries that have just been released and feature superb artists such as Phoenix, Diplo and Karl Sadler. Each has their own skills and talents and is representing their own home territory. Expect more and more artists to come through each week.

Let Me In? Pictures for the US Remake of Let the Right One In

Pictures for Let Me In have surfaced; that is the US remake of Let the Right One In. I loved the Swedish movie; just as I love the book. The director, Matt Reeves, has stated that his version will be very different from the original. This is promising as the Swedish movie did not include some of the book's subplots and darker, more twisted aspects; and since the US movie's star, Chloe Moretz, put herself through so much in Kick Ass, it is likely that she will get away with putting her character through some of these darker and more twisted events. I did not think I would be remotely excited about this film, but now I truly am.

The film also stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, from The Road.

Eli, from Let the Right One In, played by Lina Leandersson; an outstanding performance.

Stark Expo 2010 Viral Videos... I wish Tony Stark was real

I went to see Iron Man 2 last night and it was good fun. Downey Jr, Rourke and Rockwell are legends.

These viral videos for "Stark Expo 2010" are jokes! I wish it was real - Tony Stark's parties must be the nuts! I wish this tech was real too:

Better Living Through Technology

There is also an Iron Man 2 augmented reality application to make you really feel like Tony Stark... and who wouldn't want to? Following the interactive trailer, Paramount and Marvel are really pushing things forward! I like it.

"For this year's early summer blockbuster, 'IRON MAN 2', Paramount has delivered an Augmented Reality campaign allowing users to see themselves wearing the Iron Man and War Machine masks. Paramount delivered a similar for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen but took this opportunity to really extend the technology.

This time round the AR experience allows users to see the HUD view that Tony has when he is Iron Man plus have a conversation with Jarvis using quotes from the movie.

But most importantly, as we live in an embeddable, shareable world, Paramount wanted to make sure the user could easily record and share themselves as Iron Man so the tech was integrated to ensure the whole experience can now be recorded and saved to social networks or to their own computer."

Vice Guide To Film: North Korea Part 1 of 3

VBS.TV has dropped the next three part mini-series of its 'Vice Guide to Film' documentaries, exploring bizarre and often extreme international film industries.

In 'Norh Korea Part 1 of 3' Vice Co-Founder Shane Smith clearly had a (government approved) wild time putting the pieces together of this wild and freaky territory -- and went on the weirdest of missions to get into the country in the first place. North Korea has a completely unique industry given that its dictator, Kim Jong Il, is not only the country's most obsessive film-buff (an avid fan of slasher-horrors, Godzilla and Elizabeth Taylor) but also its leading film-maker; having even built a movie studio in the nation's capital, Pyongyang. It's interesting to note how multi-talented Kim Jong Il is, and quite hard to believe! He also wrote a book on the theory of film called "On the Art of Cinema".

Kim Jong Il is obviously a nutter, especially since in 1978 he kidnapped director Shin-Sang Ok (who made films such as "Pulgasari" and seems to be linked to classic franchises such as "3 Ninjas") because he didn't have anyone to make a film he had in the works.

I am not even going to mention the rest... Unreal.

There is a great competition over at Vice to win a holiday in North Korea. Enter if you dare.
