The electro-punk queen and boundary pushing digital pioneer discusses
how she's managed to be a trendsetter for the past 20 years, how
reinventing is key to her success and development as an artist, and how
the digital revolution has helped her express her rabble-rousing ideas.
Although unafraid to shock her live show is more than just mere
provocation, as she uses new technologies to create something unique,
visually arresting and above all, entertaining.
The self-proclaimed music geek who helped put the UK hip-hop scene on
the map talks about what inspired him, how he's always had a passion for
dance music, his musical collaboration UNKLE, his music label Mo Wax
and why it's important to showcase new artists. Released DJ Shadow's
seminal 1996 record Entroducing; brought attention to the graffiti
artist Futura 2000 by using his artwork on many Mo Wax releases in the
early to mid 1990s; founder of trip-hop outfit, UNKLE.
The Red Book, produced by Seventh Stitch, is an unbelievably exquisite track. This tune is deeply comparable to both Burial and Metamatics -- whose album, Neo Ouija, is one of my own strongest personal influences; even in the 1990's forms of music that are now labled 'dubstep' were running strong.
Vice has launched a major partnership with Intel Computers known as The Creators Project. The venture has established a network that shall celebrate and showcase international and multimedia creativity and culture; The Creators Project is a self-proclaimed innovative channel for artists of the digital world; both of the present and of the future.
"The Creators Project has two mandates: on one hand it’s a modern day media channel that we will continually identify and celebrate the work of visionary artists wherever they are. On the other hand it is also a content creation studio, an arts foundation of sorts that will facilitate the production and dissemination of new work with these artists and their collaborators."
A number of exhibitions and events will tie into both traditional and digital media efforts to distribute the creative works the project seeks to expose. The website is where it is happening now and soon print, TV and mobile will be added to the mix. The Creators Project has begun in New York and is set to roll out globally.
I love The Creators Project's social ethos, not only as a massive global collaboration with no boundaries, but how it embraces the audience and their interactivity; which is what it is all about:
"The spirit that cuts across the entirety of this project is one of conversation and collaboration, which fundamentally includes you, the audience. Watch, read, comment, share, and let us know what you think of our new arts channel and content studio every step of the way."
Vice and Intel have combined their might to create several documentaries that have just been released and feature superb artists such as Phoenix, Diplo and Karl Sadler. Each has their own skills and talents and is representing their own home territory. Expect more and more artists to come through each week.
Read up on this wicked piece on Wired, which delves into The Creators Project's conception, background and behind the scenes business!
Waiting really does suck! Having watched the final episode of True Blood Season 2 in the UK last night, I am all about Season 3! I have read the first two books and shall start the third soon. The show is quite different from the books so it is good to see that the wolves show up! HBO has released these previews of the new series. It looks ravishing.
This weird marvel came up on my screen this morning. The Big Hole, also known as Kimberley Mine in South Africa is the world's largest hole excavated by humans. It took 50,000 miners to dig it for the purpose of finding diamonds since they were first discovered in the 19th Century.
I am not entirely sure what is going on here, but this video is pretty interesting. Nokia have made free sat-nav available to people owning compatible smartphones. This video is about Ovi Maps being used in different parts of the world. It's meant to be a 'making of' video for a TV advert that has been running recently and these people are mad.
'Glut' by Ramadanman - I absolutely love this tune. If I popped into Phonica or Blackmarket last week instead of yesterday, I would have bagged a promo copy on 12" before they sold out! Bad times. The full release of the record is set in a couple of weeks time apparantly; and it will hopefully be out on download too.
Everything about this track makes me grin. It's full of good energy.
I had to put the full track up. You can check out the beat on the flip halfway through this piece:
Pictures for Let Me In have surfaced; that is the US remake of Let the Right One In. I loved the Swedish movie; just as I love the book. The director, Matt Reeves, has stated that his version will be very different from the original. This is promising as the Swedish movie did not include some of the book's subplots and darker, more twisted aspects; and since the US movie's star, Chloe Moretz, put herself through so much in Kick Ass, it is likely that she will get away with putting her character through some of these darker and more twisted events. I did not think I would be remotely excited about this film, but now I truly am.
Here are some fresh, rugged and nocturnal beats from the Ad Noiseam label. First is the debut album from Niveau Zero, taking dubstep through cycles of campfire horror-story vibes, to tech-rap to rave and metal influenced breakbeat.
Some utterly amazing and fresh tracks from Vaccine. Her music is in a world between the dark edges of techno, strands of 1990's 720-Degrees inspired drum and bass and the music of your future. The basslines will move your emotions and your soul; yet alone the entire compositions.

VBS.tv has made a short film about the whole fiasco. In Election VBS follows a gang of
young politicians on the campaign trail from Labour, Conservatives, the

politics. It’s like that footage of teenaged William
